Welcome to FAQ Friday with HHP! We post a call for questions every Thursday on our Facebook wall and select the 2 most popular questions on Friday to answer for you here! Let’s get started!

Here are our top questions this week:

With 26 likes, From Shelby:  I know you use paper when making your own backdrops but do you purchase the paper by the roll and where do you purchase it at?

Good timing for this question Shelby!  I just did this fun interview with our friends at Go4Pro Photos where I explain in depth how we make our most popular sets!  After you go watch that (and leave some love) I’ll share my secret 😉

Go4Pro Interview on making your own backdrops with Heidi Hope

Okay, ready?  We purchase the paper I talk about in the interview from B&H Photo online.  They have every color imaginable and awesome turnaround times to our area.

With 14 likes, From Brianna:  What camera settings do you recommend for indoor natural light?
The thing about natural light is I can’t recommend any settings.  The light is constantly changing so the settings have to change too.  Our ISO can range from 200-1600, we mainly shoot from f1.4-f5.6, and our shutter speed could drop as low as 60 hand held (with a 50mm lens) if needed.  There is no one right way to do it.  We just use the best settings possible given the amount of light we have and the look we want and we set them manually using our histogram.

And we’re going to answer an extra one this week since you just left some love under my interview at Go4Pro Photos…. you did didn’t you?
With 13 likes, From Hung:  How do you proof with your clients for images you’ll be editing?
Great question Hung!  It depends if it is a commercial shoot or a portrait shoot.  For portrait sessions, we (the photographers) select our favorite images from the session and fully edit them for our clients’ final gallery.  Galleries for our portrait sessions can be anywhere from 25-75 images depending on the type of session.  We try to include a variety of poses, sets, expressions, and the little details that help tell our clients’ story.  Clients see their portraits for the first time at their Gallery Viewing appointment.  Commercial shoots are often determined by the needs of the commercial client.  Sometimes we tether them on site, other times we create a gallery for them, then they select their favorites for editing.
Thanks for the great questions this week everyone!  If you didn’t have yours answered this week, ask us again.  There were some juicy ones we want to get to!  As always, we love to hear from you.  Keep an eye out for our next FAQ Friday post on Facebook and don’t forget to like your favorites so we can share the answers with you!
