Archive for 'First Birthday'

It is easy to see how I could have fallen in love with this little guy the second he came into the studio in his mother’s arms.  We were fast friends.  He was a busy guy, but he always kept an eye on me and would gladly stop for just a moment to flash those baby blues my way.  MELT!  We wanted a timeless baby boy look for the cake smash and knowing mom and I both gravitate towards the same soft style, I went with a simple blue bunting in front of our cream barnwood.  When we got to chatting about their summers in Nantucket during our session, the cake smash set seemed even more perfect for their style!  I love this whole session, but mostly, I’m just totally in love with this adorable baby boy.  Aren’t you?

T’s first birthday theme was Winter Wonderland.  Perfectly fitting for our first day open after the Blizzard of 2013!  We only had power for a half day, just enough time to pull off a beautiful cake smash.  Sweet Indulgence even pulled through with a gorgeous snowflake embellished cake after days without power or heat.  Talk about dedication!  The first birthday girl loved crawling around the studio and even occasionally practicing her new walking skills.  Mom did an amazing job styling the family.  I love all of the soft pinks and purples in each set.  Our whole session was classic baby girl with a little bit of playfulness sprinkled in!  Enjoy your sneak peek!

I was so thrilled to see one of my 2012 newborns back in the studio last week to celebrate his first birthday with a cake smash.  He started off our session feeling a little shy, but I must say, some of my favorite portraits were from when he was hanging on to his dad.  Something about those just perfectly captures the curiosity of a 1 year old and the way they want to explore the world without getting too far from mom and dad.  It didn’t take long for J to warm up, as you can see!  He set the record for the fastest cake tip in Heidi Hope history with the cake turning over in just seconds.  J was much more interested in playing with the cake than eating it.  He created a true masterpiece out of frosting!  I think we have a little artist on our hands.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

It seems like just yesterday that these adorable twin boys visited the studio for their newborn portraits.  2012 seemed to fly by and before I knew it, I was sitting with mom, planning their first birthday session.  The number one thing mom wanted (as any mother of twin boys on-the-move can likely relate to), was a photo of the whole family looking at the camera.  I could see why this shot was so illusive.  I had about 1/60th of a second to nail a shot before these two little athletes were off in opposite directions!  We started our session capturing plenty of fun family portraits, letting G and R run around the shooting room, and trying our best to capture them as they went!  Then it was time for the first birthday celebration.  We went for “classic baby boy” with our set, incorporating the colors from the hats the boys wore at their first birthday party.  When mom mentioned they loved balloons at the pre-session consultation, I knew just what to do.  G and R had fun digging into their cakes from Sweet Indulgence in their little balloon forest.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

I had so much fun planning this first birthday session with mom!  Both baby A and her big brother B have December birthdays so she wanted to create something fun and Holiday inspired for our cakesmash that she could take out and display as part of her Christmas decorations each year.  She also loves candids and natural smiles (me too!) so we filled our session with plenty of playing and laughs.  Big brother B is at that age when kids see a camera and automatically make a “cheese face”.  I know it all too well with my four year old, and just about every little one I photograph at this age.  The trick is to make them forget they are having their picture taken!  Usually I make a complete fool out of myself in the process.  After taking lots of fun family portraits, we focused on the birthday girl, baby A.  She was so full of personality and very quick crawling around the studio!  I love all of the expressions we caught and all of the fun memories of our session.  Enjoy your sneak peek!  Heidi Hope Shoot - Brother and Sister in red holiday outfits Brother and Sister sitting in wagon wearing holiday red - Heidi Hope ShootHeidi Hope - Family session swing little boy and little girl crawlingLittle boy in holiday sweater in front of sequin back dropGirl cake smash holiday themed with red and white candy canes - Heidi HopeHeidi Hope - Litte boy and girl holiday cake smash with santa hat and candy canesUp close little girl eating red cake from holiday cake smash - Heidi Hope

Seriously, how handsome is this little guy?  Those big brown eyes and sweet curls just kill me.  He was such a little flirt with the camera too.  O was a fast little guy, but I somehow managed to keep up as he explored the studio.  We had a fun session celebrating his first birthday last week.  Mom and dad wanted a sports theme for his cake smash so we made a sporty bunting to hang over our soft blue background.  Turns out that warm up suits are perfect for cake smashes because O’s kept him totally clean underneath!  Maybe our next outfit should be a poncho ;)   Enjoy your sneak peek!

I had so much fun with this gorgeous baby girl and her mom last week.  The bond between them was so sweet and made for some portraits that make me teary-eyed!  A was such a happy girl.  She loved crawling and playing and was a natural in front of the camera.  We had an adorable Minnie Mouse cake smash to match the fabulous outfit mom had gotten for A.  From the tip of her hat to the bows on her bottom as she crawled away, A was the perfect first birthday princess!  Enjoy your sneak peek!

I loved this little birthday girl and her gorgeous family!  S was so full of personality.  She loved crawling around the studio and was so proud of her new standing skills.  Mom and dad were up for anything and chatting with them made our shoot fly by.  We started our session with some sweet family portraits that I know they will love having with baby S while she’s still their little baby.  Then S stole the show!  From our simple classics in all white to our colorful cakesmash, this is going to be one huge gallery.  Enjoy your sneak peek!

One of my favorite families came to visit me just before Thanksgiving last week.  I’ve had fun photographing them since mom was pregnant with her first!  Now a family of four, they were back to celebrate baby C’s first birthday.  Mom had an adorable banner made by her friend and we played it up a little with some colorful polka dots and a cupcake themed cake from Sweet Indulgence.  I had fun catching up with the whole fam, seeing how much big brother C had grown, and chasing the birthday girl around for the perfect shot!  Thanks for making the trip down from New Hampshire again!  Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.

I’ve been so sentimental watching my baby planners celebrate their first birthdays lately.  I wish they could all stay babies forever!  Although I suppose that is what makes these sessions so special.  I love being able to watch my favorite babies, like gorgeous little G, turn into toddlers <3  Baby G had a session fit for a princess.  When mom said she wanted a cake smash with some sparkle, I knew I FINALLY had the perfect excuse to buy the sequined backdrop I have been eying!  I just love the way it all turned out.  Enjoy your sneak peek!
