Last Monday was my first day back after a week in the sunshine with my family. I thought I would be sad to return to work (isn’t the first day always the hardest?), but getting to photograph this gorgeous birthday girl and her family made me so happy to be back at the studio. C was the sweetest baby girl. She happily played through all of our family and sibling portraits and then loved gobbling up her cake. Mom did an awesome job styling the whole family. She owns a children’s boutique in the South End of Boston called Coco Baby and I’ve been drooling over all of their adorable goodies since meeting her! I’m going to have to stop in and shop the next time I’m in town! Enjoy your sneak peek.

I know I say it a lot, but one of the things I love most about my job is watching families grow. Capturing each new baby as they enter the world and join a family amazes me every time. This family has been coming to me for portraits since mom was pregnant with her first. Big sister A was one of the first newborns I photographed ever (perhaps a Throwback Thursday post to come?). They were back again with the birth of little brother J, now 2, and I was thrilled to hear the news that a third sweet baby would be joining the family. All in all, this was their 9th session with me! It’s no wonder that I love these kids like my own when I see them again! Baby L was just as perfect as her big brother and sister… only, I was very surprised to see a full head of brown hair on this one! Other than that, she looks just like her big brother and sister did as babies… lucky girl! Enjoy your sneak peek P family. Thank you for another perfect “session” as A would say!

Each year that I do this, I marvel at how much faster time is going by! Can you believe a year has already passed?

I feel like I JUST photographed H as a newborn. I was very pregnant, wobbling around the studio for his newborn session. He was so cuddly and cute. He made me all the more excited to be greeting my new addition in a few weeks. Almost 1 year later, H visited us again for his first birthday Cakesmash. He was just as darling as I remember him, but all grown up much too fast! He was so expressive that looking through this gallery for a preview had me giggling. Don’t you just love him?! Since mom and dad had to wait a little extra for their preview while I was on vacation, I couldn’t help but include a few extra pics today. Enjoy your sneak peek, can’t wait to show you the rest!

This gorgeous baby girl has grown up so fast in front of our eyes! She was full of personality during our recent Little Star session and her gorgeous brown eyes just took my breath away! From sweet, to sassy, to full-out giggles, I love all of the expressions we captured as she explored the studio. Having 2 older brothers, we planned this session for her to be 100% girly girl. Perfect for a little princess! Enjoy your sneak peek.

I was thrilled when A contacted us to photograph her 1 year old daughter C and baby-on-the-way K! She’s a local photographer who I’ve known through our photography groups here in Southern New England for a few years now. She’s an amazing photographer in her own right, but I know just how hard it is to try photographing your own newborn just after giving birth. I always love working with other photographers because I know just how much they appreciate beautiful photography and everything that goes into it! A’s gorgeous family was nothing short of perfect at our session. Newborn K was a social butterfly. She was so ready to meet the world, mom actually had her in the CAR on the way to the hospital! I know mom’s hands must be full with these two sweet girls, but in the best kind of way imaginable! Enjoy your sneak peek!

Many find the thought of pulling off an entire sleepy newborn session with a room full of people, kids jumping around the bean bag and parents trying to keep everyone happy on 2 hours of sleep a bit overwhelming! Our quiet newborn sessions used to focus on only the newborn for just that reason. Then, I photographed this session. Mom expressed to me before our session that she really wanted to capture the full family. She was willing to pay two session fees! Well, that wasn’t necessary, I was up for the challenge. I loved every moment. It was one of my favorite sessions I’ve ever photographed and still is to this day. This session made me see how beautiful and meaningful it can be to capture a family welcoming a newborn baby. When I had my daughter Grace almost two years later, I ended up wanting to capture family and sibling photos even more than I wanted fancy newborn poses and props. When I look back at the photos of Grace as a newborn (a time already a bit faded in my memory), the images of Giuliana staring down at her in awe are the ones that still bring tears to my eyes. So now, at our studio, we offer two different types of newborn sessions. You can choose a Newborn Session that focuses on your darling bundle of joy in all of their perfect sleepiness or you can opt for a Newborn and Family Session that captures those sweet sleepy poses in addition to all of the love showered on baby by their welcoming family and older siblings. Newborn and Family Sessions are even more beautiful taken in your own home if you prefer to have us come to you!
This Throwback Thursday I wanted to share with you some favorite images from this gorgeous family newborn session taken in 2011 so that you can see the beauty in getting the whole family involved. ~ Heidi

I loved meeting this family a few years ago for their son’s first birthday cake smash. When I found out they had a baby girl and would be back to celebrate her birthday with us, I was thrilled! Mom always has such great ideas for our sessions and is so fun to work with. T was full of personality at our shoot. She was on the go and had the best sense of humor. She was always making silly faces and cracking up! I could have played all day! Enjoy your sneak peek.

It is easy to see how I could have fallen in love with this little guy the second he came into the studio in his mother’s arms. We were fast friends. He was a busy guy, but he always kept an eye on me and would gladly stop for just a moment to flash those baby blues my way. MELT! We wanted a timeless baby boy look for the cake smash and knowing mom and I both gravitate towards the same soft style, I went with a simple blue bunting in front of our cream barnwood. When we got to chatting about their summers in Nantucket during our session, the cake smash set seemed even more perfect for their style! I love this whole session, but mostly, I’m just totally in love with this adorable baby boy. Aren’t you?

I’d like to introduce you to Grace’s future husband! I say that not just because he is unbearably adorable, but because his mom and I have been besties since college. When we were expecting together, she a boy and I a girl, naturally we immediately started making plans to marry them off to each other. We like to pose them together every opportunity we get and then inevitably giggle “this one is DEFINITELY going to be displayed at their wedding!” Somehow while Grace has been growing, I still picture S as a newborn, yet here he was already 6 months old! He is one of the happiest babies I’ve ever photographed and he was a great audience for my funny faces and odd sense of humor (just like his mom!). He practiced his ball skills, sitting up alone, and taking a ride in our wagon. The whole session was too perfect until he was so happy, he tipped right over! I think when the only thing you can say went wrong was that your subject was too happy, you’ve had one amazing session! Enjoy your sneak peek.

Little Star Sessions are always some of my favorite! They are simple and sweet and really allow the personality of my subjects to shine through. L loved being in front of the camera and her bubbly personality was so much fun to capture! She rocked each sweet set-up and flashed her big smile from start to finish. And check out those baby blues… stunning! Thanks for such a fun morning H family. Enjoy your sneak peek!
