Baby L was so good to us last week. He rocked not one, but TWO hanging shots! I’ve never had a baby breeze through two hanging shots before. L rocked it! And for the first time ever, dad held the stick rather than Shaun. But dad’s name was Sean too, so I was pretty sure it was meant to work. For anyone new to newborn photography, images like those are actually composites created in photoshop. Baby is always totally safe with plenty of hands around and we don’t even attempt it if baby is not in a very deep sleep! Thanks for the fun session L. Enjoy your preview!

If you’ve been following our blog since last spring, you may remember all of the newborn garden shots we created at the studio. Last week I finally felt it was time to break the garden out again! I went to the garden shop and picked out some beautiful pink tulips. We planted them in our garden box out behind the studio and rolled it in carefully. There was only one problem. We built walls inside the studio last fall. Walls with doorways. Doorways that apparently don’t fit our garden through them. But what about all of the beautiful tulips??? My heart was set on the picture I had in my mind. Shaun knew what was coming and got out of the studio. He couldn’t stand to watch. Five girls spent an hour wrestling with a rain soaked garden box that must have weighed a ton. Mud splashed on the floor and all over us. We tried lifting, pushing, even sawing part of the box off. There was only one solution. We had to take the door off the hinges and pry that door frame off. I was getting this picture!! And we did! And it was totally worth it! With a power sander and a little paint, our door will look like new again. But that picture will last forever.
And what about newborn baby A? She was absolutely gorgeous and gladly snuggled into the garden made just for her. I think she looks like a princess surrounded by all of those flowers! Enjoy your preview!

I just adored my shoot with baby C last week. She was perfectly relaxed and sleepy through out our session together. Mom and dad were beaming with pride and seemed like they had a lot of fun watching their little girl make her debut. This little one is surely a princess! Enjoy your preview!

Little baby O was such a dream to photograph last week. She made a healthy, happy, and very early arrival! In fact, her newborn session was originally scheduled for a month from now! Like all babies, she had her own schedule and I’m so happy I had the opportunity to meet her even sooner. She was so sweet and sleepy and I had fun getting to know her family. Doesn’t mom look amazing?! Enjoy your preview!

The best part of my job is watching families grow. I photographed big brother D two years ago when he was just born. This time around he was on the move! We finally got him to jump into a shot at the end of our session and it was totally worth the effort. He was so sweet kissing his baby brother. Baby brother D slept right through the commotion and gave us some beautiful newborn portraits. Enjoy your preview.

Baby J was so sweet and sleepy! From beginning to end he was totally relaxed in every set up. I’m predicting J will be a little towhead! He had perfect porcelain skin and some of the blondest hair I’ve ever seen on a newborn. Just perfect in every way. Enjoy your preview mom and dad!

Baby B made us all work at the beginning of his shoot. He was so alert to start our session but after a big feeding, he was happy enough to look around and take it all in. That is my favorite time to capture images of newborns interacting with their parents. I love the way they turn towards the voices of their parents and mimic their expressions. I remember my daughter as a newborn trying to latch on to my husband’s nose when he nuzzled her. I wish I had an image of that to look back on and it thrills me to capture moments like that for other families. Baby B finally did fall asleep (as all newborns eventually do!) and we ended up with a really great session! Enjoy your preview.

I’m running out the door for an appointment but I just HAVE to share this preview before I go! Baby J was an absolute dream to photograph. He was so sleepy he just breezed through every set. At two weeks old, it is unusual to have such an easy session! He rocked it. Enjoy your preview. Can’t wait to show you all of the rest!

Baby R came into our session a social butterfly. She loved looking around and getting to know me a little before settling down to sleep. I love using newborn’s awake time to capture images with parents. It’s really important that they start the session with a feeding so they contently gaze at the camera or into their parents’ faces while I snap away! A full belly always does the trick. Baby R did fall asleep soon enough and we captured those sweet sleepy newborn shots I know mom and dad will adore. Enjoy your sneak peek!

Isn’t baby J one of the most adorable newborns you’ve ever seen?! Sleep wasn’t on his agenda when we started our session, but I didn’t mind! I was able to capture that adorable little face of his with his big blue eyes wide open. After about 2 hours of comforting and feeding, J finally fell into a content sleep. Then we were able to get all of those adorable sleepy shots as well. I just love the suitcase shot incorporating a family quilt. Who am I kidding? I love every shot from this session! Enjoy your preview.
